About the Wordle solver

Enter the letters you have already guessed and mark each one the colour the game gave it. Every word that still fits comes back, with the ones that can actually be the answer separated from the ones that are merely accepted as guesses.

That separation matters. Wordle accepts about 13,000 words but only around 2,300 of them are ever the solution. A solver that mixes the two lists together hands you five plausible-looking words that the game will never choose.

Examples

C green, RANE grey
25 possible answers — COULD, CHILD, CLOCK…
_A_E_ green
every answer with A second and E fourth
E yellow then grey
exactly one E, and not where you guessed it

Tips

Common questions

What do the colours mean?

Green is the right letter in the right place. Yellow is the right letter in the wrong place. Grey means no further occurrences of that letter.

Why are some words listed separately?

Wordle accepts far more words as guesses than it will ever use as answers. The second list is valid to type but will never be the solution.

Does this show today's answer?

No. It narrows the field from the clues you have. It has no knowledge of which puzzle you are playing.

My clues give no results.

Usually a mis-marked repeated letter. Check that a letter you marked grey is not also marked green or yellow somewhere it should not be.
