Is it a word?
Type a word and find out whether it is in the dictionary, and what it scores.
About the word checker
Type a word and this tells you whether it is in the dictionary this site searches, what it scores on a Scrabble and a Words with Friends board, and what it means where a definition exists.
It is the same answer the tools give, asked directly. A word that turns up in the unscrambler is valid here, and one that does not will say so rather than leave you guessing why it never appeared.
Examples
- QI
- valid — 11 points, and one of the most useful two-letter words there is
- valid — modern English, and on the tournament lists
- XYZZY
- not in the dictionary
Tips
- Whether a word is allowed in your game depends on the dictionary that game uses. This checks one list, so treat a result as a strong hint rather than a ruling.
- Checking a word you lost a challenge over is the fastest way to find out which of you was right.
